Strangest Book of the Week #7

I was on vacation the week before last (nowhere tropical, just a quiet week reading and working on other projects), and so this feature went overlooked. And it went overloooked last Friday as well. Distractions abound! I hate multitasking.

How to Collect and Preserve Insects

by H.H. Ross, Illinois State Natural History Survey Circular 39, November, 1966.

I don’t really have much to say about this one. It does appear to include all the necessary information for your amateur entomologist! …or just your odd collector and displayer of all kinds of insects. I had a girlfriend in college who collected big colorful beetles, and I have to admit, they were pretty fascinating and looked great displayed in their boxes on the wall. I like to think that if I were of my parent’s generation and grown up in the late ’50s and early ’60s I would have had a hobby like this rather than collecting stamps or postcards. …I probably would’ve collected stamps.
