Strangest Book of the Week #8
Curious about what celebrities in the 1970s liked to eat and to cook? Wonder no more.
Celebrity Cooking Capers
by Katherine Rose Robbins, signed, 1979. Published in Denver, CO.
There are around 100 recipes in here from that many different famous people from 40 years ago. Everyone from Burt Reynolds (beef stew), to Jimmy Carter (“plains special” cheese ring), to Shirley MacLaine (fruit salad), Mary Tyler Moore (French onion soup), Billy Graham (grapefruit salad), Cloris Leachman (zucchini casserole), Dick Van Dyke (chili mac), Cher (Mandarin-style beef), Bob Barker (prune cake), Red Skelton (ham hocks and lima beans), Ronald Reagan (macaroni and cheese), Lucille Ball (goulash), The Carpenters (peach mabel)… and even Joan Rivers (pineapple upside-down cake)! Probably 90% of the people listed in here I don’t recognize.
Proceeds from the book were donated to research into osteogenesis imperfecta, Rey’s syndrome, malignant hyperthermia, oxalosis and olliers.
